It's a Jungle Out There (15/11/12)

The Dream

I am in the Amazon jungle. I am with a group on a research trip. The group consists of people I know from all different places; good friends, old friends, co-workers and bosses and family members. We are preparing to go on a trip to see the wildlife in the jungle and have to make seeing devices. This includes cutting eye holes in boxes. I try to do it once and am confident I am doing it right. Everyone tells me it is not right and they show me how. I am glad they showed me the correct way and go about making my own box/seeing device for the trip.

During this time many boats full of American tourists start coming up the river. I remark that this increase in traffic must be because the presidential election is over and more people are taking vacations. I look to the river again and see some of my group standing in the river waiting for the boat to take us on the trip. I go to grab my stuff to join them. As I am walking to the river, I see tanks full of animals including snakes and a cat-like creature that lives in water and swims like a fish. I step out into the river. That is all I remember.

Meanings*

Jungle: To dream that you are in a jungle signifies aspects of yourself and your personality that may be inhibited. You may be experiencing some chaos and unpredictable circumstances in your waking life.

Boxes: To see a box in your dream may symbolize your limitations and restrictions. To dream that you are opening a box indicates an aspect of yourself that was once hidden is now being revealed. It symbolizes self discovery. Consider your feelings as you open the box. To see a cardboard box in your dream indicates a lack of protection against risk.

Boats: To dream that you see a boat signifies your ability to cope with and express your emotions. Alternatively, you may be ready to confront your subconscious and unknown aspects of yourself.

River: A river symbolizes joyful pleasures, peace, prosperity and fertility. Alternatively, this dream means you are ready to confront life's challenges and life's twists and turns.

Lab Animals: To see lab animals in your dream suggest that an aspect of yourself is being repressed. You feel that you are not able to fully express your desires and emotions. Alternatively, it suggests that you need to experiment with your fears, choices, and beliefs. Try not to limit yourself.

On the Couch

My dreams are slowly becoming more hopeful. I feel as if I am in the midst of chaos and constantly face unpredictable events. However I am comfortable with this, I don't feel alone and I don't feel useless. I am starting to cut holes in my limitations and restrictions and trying to see through them to find my potential. As this is happening I am finally starting to be able to cope and express my emotions while confronting my subconscious. Now is the time to step out into the river and deal with life's challenges on my way to experiencing more pleasure, peace and prosperity. Before I step out into this new part of life I am reminded of what I am leaving behind, my repressed desires, emotions, beliefs and dreams as I go to find them where they are not repressed, in the wild.

Hmm, these things seem to be startlingly accurate so far. I do feel like my life is a bit chaotic right now. A couple relatively new jobs, being out of school for the first time in 18 years, learning new skills and testing new ventures are all forcing me to throw predictability into the wind. I think I am finally starting to get used to this, to accept my circumstances and trying to grow despite the challenges. I know limitations exists, especially personally inflicted ones like laziness and anxiety, but I am trying to shape these limitations and see through them to accomplish things and move forward. This is being helped because of my desire to read into my subconscious. I mean, what better way to do this than to analyze my dreams.

Or this could simply mean that I should go back to school to become a biologist and remake myself into the Canadian Indiana Jones. Or that catfish are actually cats that are fish. Whoa.

  1. Don't become Indiana Jones! I would worry. I like your first interpretation better!
