Trash Talking and the Underdogs (12/6/12)

The Dream

I am getting ready to play a game of shinny with some friends when three guys come into the dressing room. They are mean and challenge us to a game. They appear strong and good at hockey, but I am confident we can win because we have twice as many players. They say we can only play them 3 vs 3. We accept their challenge and we start getting ready for the game.

I am ready to go, but I cannot find my skates. I go to the benches and ask around for them. The guy from the other team comes up and says he hid them. I get angry and go find them as the game begins.

Searching for my skates involves a lot of walking up and down concrete and wooden stairs. I am still trying to locate my skates and I see my team is surprisingly winning the game 3-0. I find another pair of skates that aren't mine, but fit me anyways.

It is the end of the second period and my team is losing 9-8. I run down to the ice and start trash talking my opponents. I go to grab my stick from the dressing room before the start of the third period, but I cannot find my way back to the ice. That’s all I remember.

On the Couch

I am starting to create a new self image. I am getting comfortable in the new personas I need to have to fulfill who I am becoming and who I want to me. I have a desire to prove my new self in the real world, not just some friendly, no-risk, game. I keep winning and losing, going up and down, experiencing victories and defeats in life on my new quest to prove myself and achieve something. I want the chance to prove myself and achieve things so badly, but I am left searching for one more thing I need that seems to be missing in order to get this chance. All this leaves me frustrated and lost, not sure where to go next.

This dream tells me two things; I am frustrated and my life seems to be going on a roller coaster lately. I now have three jobs. I have different roles and different personas for each job. I am getting used to these personas and I am hoping they allow me to make money and gain experience on my way to something greater. I am getting tired of it though. I want more responsibility and a job where I can say "I went to school for that". However, I find myself coming up empty and worst of all, unsure of how I got there. I seem to be moving forward with a job interview here and an email of interest there, but suddenly I am left with only rejection, back at square one. This is making me frustrated. Maybe I lack the drive or ambition, maybe I lack experience or I don't sell myself very well in emails. The problem is, I just don't know which one it is!

Oh maybe the dream just means I'm fed up with the NHL lockout. Come one, give me a stick, some skates and the Air Canada Centre, I'll fill in for the pros!
